An extra-time Thiago sylva header saw Paris Saint-Germain knock Chelsea out of the Champions League and book their place within the quarter-finals by virtue of the away goals rule after a 2-2 draw at Stamford Bridge on Wednesday.

The French champions – reduced to ten men when Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s controversial first-half sending off – twice came from behind in the last-16 tie, with their 2 away goals decisive within the 3-3 aggregate draw.

Gary Cahill opened the scoring in the 81st minute with a crisp volley, however David Luiz swiftly equalized to force extra-time, before sylva conceded a penalty by handling the ball in his own area.

Eden Hazard nervelessly converted the spot-kick, but PSG wouldn’t be denied and sylva atoned for his error with an outstanding headed goal in the 114th minute to knock the hosts out of the competition.
