Helen Mirren Defends Oscars Over Lack of Diversity: 'It's Unfair to Attack the Academy'



The 70- Year old English actress has voiced her opinion on the recent social media reactions of the Oscar nomination List released last Month and also explain her view of how the Oscar works despite concerns and critic from African-American Celebrities and actors and Actress which earned it the name White Oscar.

The Trumbo Actress in an interview with Jon Snow of England’s Channel 4 News said she thinks its unfair to attack the academy.

In Answering a Question of which Jon snow asked id she felt the Oscar are “behind the Times” for Failing to Nominate Not a Single Black actor for the Second Year in a Row, Mirren Said “It just so happened it went that way.”

although she did concede that Idris Elba would have absolutely been nominated for an Oscar given in his success in the war Movie about child Soldier titled “Beast of no Nation” of which he Picked An SAG awards for last weekend and also another Award for a Limited Television Series called Luther, she said that he was not simply because, “not enough people saw – or wanted to see – a film about child soldiers.”

In Shedding More Lights on her Thoughts,   “I’m saying that the issue we need to be looking at is what happens before the film gets to the Oscars.

“What kind of films are made, and the way in which they’re cast, and the scripts … so it’s those things that are much more influential ultimately than who stands there with an Oscar.”

The Academy, for its part, announced some sweeping changes to its voting process in response to the diversity uproar, including the appointment of three women and people of color as governors and a wide-scale campaign to recruit new members believed to “represent greater diversity.”
