Serena was in a dominant form on the night for her first Us Open 2016 match as she brushed aside Marakova in a 6-3, 6-3 Straight Set Victory in just over an hour.

After the game she was interviewed  live on the court, and shortly after she meet up with her fellow US Olympians in persons of Record Breaker Simone manuel  who became the first African American in the world to win Gold in the womens Swimming category at the just concluded Rio Olympics in Brazil and also the first woman in the world to wear an ijab, Ibtihaj Muhammad at the Olympic while competing in the fencing category.

She did eventually win a medal at the Olympics.

Serena said:

“I’m not a big swimmer,” laughed Serena. “I’m really good backwards… though no one believes me. I’m a good backstroker. I’m fast, I just get tired very quickly.”

According to USATOday:

Both Manuel and Muhammad made history at the Olympics earlier this month, when Manuel became the first black swimmer to win a gold medal in an individual event in the 100 freestyle and Muhammad became the first American athlete to wear a hijab while competing at the Olympics.

Muhammad collected a bronze medal in the team sabre event in fencing, while Manuel won two golds and two silvers between individual and relay events.

“Congratulations to both of you,” Williams told them in a hallway inside Arthur Ashe Stadium, the three of them hanging out among a group of people. She added: “I didn’t get a medal though.”

“You led the way for us, you know that,” Muhammad offered. “For me and for all of us, what you do speaks volumes for generations and generations and generations to come. We appreciate you. It’s an honor to come see you play.”

Muhammad had watched Venus Williams play earlier in the day, the elder Williams sister winning her first round match in three sets.

Serena Williams invited both Muhammad and Manuel to her New York Fashion Week show after the Open, though Manuel had to turn down the invitation due to pre-season training for her junior year at Stanford.

“How old are you?” Serena asked.

“I’m 20,” Manuel responded.

“You’ll be in Tokyo for sure then, right?” Serena said, then laughing as she said she would be watching from somewhere else.

Manuel had met Venus Williams at Arthur Ashe Kids’ Day on Saturday before the tournament. She also had a USA Swimming pin in hand for Serena.

“I heard about your pin collection, so I hope you didn’t get a USA Swimming one,” she told Serena.

Williams said when she is in the pool she mostly plays games. Silly games.

“When I’m in the pool I like to play Marco Polo… or sharks and minnows!” Williams said, laughing again. “I’m always the shark though!”

Williams said she hoped she could learn something from both of her fellow Olympians.

“Let’s stay in touch,” she told Muhammad. “I want to get some fencing lessons.”

Serena then demonstrated a few of her fencing “moves.” She has a little work to put in if she wants to switch sports for 2020, however.

“You would take my spot on the team for sure,” said a smiling Muhammad. “I would be your coach! We have big powerful legs too. You’re not the only one out here with them, girl.”
