According to EspnFc.com:

The yellow card Lionel Messi picked up in the 2-1 win against Sevilla last weekend has been upheld by the Royal Spanish Football Federation’s (RFEF) Competition Committee after Barcelona appealed against the booking.

Referee Santiago Jaime Latre cautioned Messi for time wasting as he tried to put his boot back on after being fouled by Steven N’Zonzi.

Barca felt that the decision was incorrect as N’Zonzi’s challenge damaged Messi’s boot, meaning he was not able to put it back on immediately.

Luis Enrique complained after the game that Jaime Latre’s ruling, forcing Messi to leave the field of play, prejudiced the team which had been on the receiving end of the foul.

However, the RFEF’s Competition Committee did not agree and decided to uphold the original decision.

There has been no response from Barca yet, although Mundo Deportivo reports the club are planning to take their appeal to the Appeals Committee, which usually meets each Thursday to look over these type of situations.

The yellow card was Messi’s third in the league this season, while Luis Suarez and Neymar picked up their fifth and fourth bookings of the season respectively in game at the Sanchez Pizjuan on Sunday.

Uruguay striker Suarez will therefore be suspended for Malaga’s visit to Camp Nou next weekend, while Neymar is now one caution away from a ban and runs the risk of missing the Clasico against Real Madrid.
