According to US Today, Three American women reached the semifinals, the most since 2001. Venus Williams, 36, is the oldest to  reach the Australian Open semis in Open era history.

Coming into the semifinals, Venus hadn’t dropped a set. Her toughest competition was No. 27 Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova, who she beat in the quarterfinals.
Vandeweghe had played some of her best tennis in Melbourne, upsetting No. 1 Angelique Kerber in the fourth round. She also beat No. 7 seed Garbine Muguruza and Eugenie Bouchard.

“It means so much, mostly because she played so well. I mean, she played so unbelievable,” Williams said. “To be able to get through the final from a match like this — I’m excited about American tennis as well.”

It’s the 12th time that both Williams sisters have reached the semifinals of the same Grand Slam.
