Novak Djokovic set up a mouthwatering French Open quarter-final on Sunday with a straight-sets win over the 19th seed Albert Ramos-Vinolas.
Djokovic, the No 2 seed, was far from his best in a patchy first set but eventually took it on a tie-break after 73 minutes of error-strewn tennis.

From that point on Djokovic was firmly in control against the durable Spaniard, and won eight of the next nine games to take the second set and grab an early break in the third.
Ramos-Vinolas did not give up and broke back, but in spite of winning a couple of lung-busting rallies – a 41-shot exchange had supporters on Court Philippe-Chatrier on their feet – Djokovic motored towards the finish line to claim a 7-6 (5), 6-1, 6-3 win.

Next up for the defending champion will be a quarter final against the Austrian sixth seed Dominic Thiem. Djokovic hammered the 23-year-old for the loss of just one game in Rome last month, but Thiem is yet to drop a set at Roland Garros and is in excellent form. Earlier on Sunday he completed a 6-1 6-3 6-1 victory over Argentina’s Horacio Zeballos.
