Every year “Black Girls Rock” takes the time to honor women for all of their accomplishments in their perspective fields and communities.

This year will be no different as some of the honorees include Issa Rae, Yara Shahidi, and Roberta Flack, among some other amazing women. This year’s host has also been a game changer in Hollywood, as she continues to break barriers.

 According to The Grio, Taraji P. Henson was recently announced as the host for this year’s award show.

Henson talked about her upcoming hosting duties and said, “I’m honored to host the ‘BLACK GIRLS ROCK! Awards. I love the message and I love Beverly Bond and her vision. I was lucky to be honored in 2011. It is truly a highlight of my life. Now I’m back to be part of this amazing night to honor the strong and powerful Yara, Issa Rae, Roberta, Suzanne, Derrica and Natalie. Let’s make history together as we come together as women of brains, beauty and in support of each other.”

This year’s Black Girls Rock Award Show will take place at the New Jersey Performing Arts Center on August 5th and air on BET August 20th at 8p.m. EST.
