Daddy Yankee has taken to Billboard’s official Instagram account to celebrate his success as the new king on YouTube. “Thank you YouTube for ‘Despacito’ success,” he says. “I recognize the influence that the platform has. The music industry has changed. The rules of music have changed. And YouTube has a big responsibility, and I recognize it. Breaking the record is overwhelming, and I’m happy to keep inspiring others to do the same.”
Thanks to the song’s remix featuring Justin Bieber, “Despacito” has been rising steadily on music charts. It has been staying steady at No. 1 on Billboard Hot 100 for twelve weeks. In June, the song also became the most-streamed track of all time with more than 4.6 billion streams
Less than a month ago, Wiz Khalifa and Charlie Puth surpassed K-Pop artist PSY‘a breakout smash hit “Gangnam Style” with their “Furious 7” soundtrack cut. The tear-jerking ballad has now moved to the second position with a little less than 3 billion views.
