In 2017, Africa Fashion Week Nigeria in partnership with Lagos State Government introduced for the first time ever in the history of Fashion Week in Nigeria, a pre-event called “The Iconic Catwalk Shows“.
The exclusive event took place at two historic sites – National Theatre on the 1st of Apriland at Tinubu Square on the 2nd of April. The Iconic Catwalk pre-event for the AFWN fashion week highlighted talented designers such as Redbutton, Florencediya, Amy Chilaka, Kola Kuddus, Zizi Cardow, JP Kouture, Jazz Effects Design and lots more expressing how traditional culture brings modern spirit to fashion against the splendor of these heritage sites.
The event was attended by top personalities in the fashion industry, royal chiefs from Lagos and representative of the Lagos State Government Hon. Adebimpe Akinsola amongst others.

The beauty of our textiles have changed beyond the conventional era of simplicity in fashion to paving the way for more creative, colourful and modernistic styles that appeal not just to the older more traditional people but young people all over the world.
The objective of AFW, based in London and Nigeria, is to create an enabling platform across the globe where creative African designers and fashion entrepreneurs can showcase the beauty and creativity of Africa through their designs and costumes. Africa Fashion Week is strongly committed to promoting and positioning African designers within the global fashion space, especially up and coming designers.
