Interview with Chelsea new boy, Kepa

Kepa on being at Chelsea and being £71m: “Very brave for the club to invest in me. About being the most expensive goalkeeper in the world? I won’t think about it.”

Kepa on Chelsea’s approach: “I came back from my holiday on the 23rd and a few days into my training I knew already about interest in me. There had been prior offers from Chelsea to me, but Athletic is a club that doesn’t usually take an interest in their players leaving”

Kepa on adapting to England: “I think some players take more time and others take a bit less time. Everybody is different. I hope to adapt as soon as possible but we are all different. I realise the game in England is different.”

Kepa on surprise on being most expensive goalkeeper in the world: “I don’t think about the price. It is not in my mind. Chelsea made a great bet in taking me. I am really happy to be here and I will put everything into it to repay their trust that they have put in me”

Kepa on Hazard’s future: “I always like to have the best players in my team. For him, it is a personal situation but I hope to have the best players around me” Kepa says the only pressure he experiences is the pressure he puts on himself. ‘I am a player who demands a lot from myself.’

Kepa on goalkeepers being valued highly in the current transfer market: “The market in general has gone up in price a lot in the last few years. It has to do with a lot of things, like contracts with the media companies, but it is great to value goalkeepers”

Kepa asked about Courtois & own collapsed move to Real Madrid: “In January, I was coming to the end of my contracts and there were a number of negotiations but I decided to stay at Athletic. Things change and Chelsea bet on me and I am happy to start this”
