After video of American Rapper, ASAP Rocky, fighting in Sweden surfaced on the internet, he has now been officially charged for causing bodily harm.
Born Rakim Mayers, better known as Pretty Boy ASAP Rocky, was arrested earlier this month – July – along with two men on the bases on fighting on the streets on Sweden.
According to ASAP, he acted in self-defence against a group of men who were following his squad.
However, the Prosecutor in charge claims that after studying the videos provided, it can be considered as a crime that has been committed despite an ‘excuse’ for self-defence and provocation.
“It is worth noting that I have had access to a greater amount of material than that which has previously been available on the internet,” said Daniel Suneson of the City Public Prosecution Office.
He also added that, the alleged victim’s statements had the support of a witness’ statements.
Initially, the alleged victims were two, but one has been dropped by the prosecutor because of lack of evidence. The case was closed on 22 July, 2019.
ASAP’s arrest led to the intervention of US President Donald Trump, but it could not succeed.
BACKGROUND OF THE STORY:
ASAP has been in Sweden custody since July 3rd, 2019 due to the assault that occurred on 30th June, 2019. The assault was captured on camera and went viral within the shortest possible time. The video showed ASAP punching another man on the streets of Sweden. Apparently, ASAP had told a group of men to stop following them as they had been following them for four blocks. The victim of the assault claimed that ASAP broke his earphones whiles ASAP’s defence was that the man punched his security guard.
ASAP has spent the past weeks at the Kronoberg Prison whiles investigations were still ongoing. There has been reports that the jail looks very unpleasant but the prison boss claims ASAP is being kept in a “good condition.”
The 30-year old Rapper’s arrest has caused a lot of canceled shows like the WIRELESS festival and Smash Festival for him as a performer.
However, a trial date is expected to last at least three days after it has been set.
