Actors Guild of Nigeria issues warning to initiators of fake death news, cyber attacks and threats to star actors on social media

The Actors Guild of Nigeria, or AGN, has issued a harsh warning to those who spread false death rumors, engage in persistent cyberattacks, and make death threats against famous actors on social media.

The AGN’s President, Emeka Rollas, issued the warning in a statement that was also signed by his SSA on Media and Publicity, Kemi Adekomi. Rollas added that the Guild is collaborating with the appropriate law enforcement officials to find and apprehend the offenders.

He called such behavior callous and forewarned that the Guild has put in place machinery in cooperation with the appropriate law enforcement officials to find and capture the heartless perpetrators of such heinous deeds.

Read the statement below.

“There have been series of fake reports of death of major star actors like Olu Jacobs, Kanayo O. Kanayo, Omotola Jalade Ekeinde, John Okafor (Ibu), Genevieve Nnaji, Pete Edochie and many others on social media just to generate followers on their blogs and pages,” .

“We cannot fold our arms and watch this misdemeanour continue unabated. Therefore, the leadership of the Actors Guild of Nigeria, AGN is collaborating with relevant security agencies with the aid of advanced security equipments to track-down and apprehend culprits and persecute them,” the statement read.

“It is inhuman to write obituary of someone alive or peddle fake news to threaten an innocent person just to generate followers on social media handles.”

“The National President advises those behind this incessant mischief to desist henceforth, before they are caught by the long arms of the law.”
