Kuje prison attack: ”Only God saved us” – Abba Kyari Breaks Silence

Embattled former Police officer, Abba Kyari Escapes Assassination In Prison

Abba Kyari, a suspended deputy commissioner of police, has experienced again what it was like to be imprisoned during the attack on Abuja’s Kogi Medium Security Prison.

On Tuesday night, insurgents who have now been identified as ISWAP broke into the prison and released hundreds of prisoners, including 64 members of Boko Haram.

According to a jail source, Kyari, who is on trial for allegedly trafficking drugs, was later moved to a safe area by the authorities.

He reportedly relayed his experience from his current position and claimed that God had preserved him as well as other prominent prisoners including Farouk Lawan and Jolly Nyame, the former governor of Taraba state.

He said; ‘’Only God saved us today (yesterday). For over two hours and 45 minutes, more than 300 terrorist took over the Kuje prison in Abuja with GPMGs, Bombs, RPGs, Many Rifles etc.

‘’The total population of the Kuje Prison inmates is about 1,476, and only 111 of the inmates refused to escape and decided to remain in the prison as 90 per cent escaped.

‘’Those that decided not to escape include former governor Jolly Nyame of Taraba State, Farouk lawal, Abba Kyari and four of his officers, retired AVM and also 107 other inmates who have less than three months to finish their jail term.’’
