2022 World Cup: England suffer Harry Kane injury blow ahead of USA clash

Gareth Southgate, England’s manager, has received an injury scare, with captain Harry Kane scheduled to undergo an ankle scan.

Kane appeared to be in a lot of pain after Morteza Pouraliganji’s tackle in the second half of Monday’s win over Iran.

He remained on the field for the Three Lions until the 75th minute, when he was replaced by Callum Wilson.

The 29-year-old was involved in an indoor recovery session on Tuesday, a development that was viewed as positive news.

But Kane is due to undergo further examination on the joint ahead of Friday’s clash against the USA.

It now remains to be seen whether he trains with the rest of his team-mates today, though the FA played down the injury scare yesterday.

After the game head coach Gareth Southgate said: ‘I think Harry’s fine. It looked like a bad tackle but he carried on in the game. We took him off because we felt it was a moment in the game we could do that.’

But England are now facing an anxious wait to discover the extent of Kane’s ankle concern.
