Burna Boy beats Tems, Black Sherif, others to win best African act at MTV Awards

Burna Boy To Perform At 60,000-Capacity London Stadium & Two Other Venues

Grammy Award-winning singer Burna Boy has won the ‘Best African Act category at the 2022 MTV Europe Music Award recently held in Germany.

Burna Boy was nominated in the category alongside Ayra Starr, Black Sherif, Tems, Zuchu and Musa Keyz.

Pop star Taylor Swift was the big winner at the award event, which was held at PSD Bank Dome in Düsseldorf, Germany on Sunday night.

The US singer took home four awards including ‘best artist,’ ‘best video,’ ‘best pop’ and ‘best long-form video’ for ‘All Too Well (10 Minute Version) (Taylor’s Version).’


Nicki Minaj was also awarded ‘best-hip-hop’ and ‘best song’ for ‘Super Freaky Girl,’ while Harry Styles won in the ‘best live’ category.


Seventeen, the South Korean boy band, beat Tems to claim the ‘best new artiste’ category

In August 2022, Burna Boy became the first African artiste to sell out the State Farm Arena, beating his colleagues Wizkid, Davido and Tiwa Savage.


He is also the only African artiste to have sold out four Arenas in the US. They include; the 17 thousand-capacity Hollywood bowl, the Toyota center, with a capacity of 19 thousand, the 21 thousand Madison Square Garden, and the 21 thousand-capacity State Farm Arena in Atlanta.

The 31-year-old also made history as the first African to sell out the Ziggi Dome in Amsterdam, Netherlands during his concert Burna Boy Space Drift tour.
