Elon Musk went on a rant against top Twitter advertiser Apple on Monday, claiming that the company threatened to remove the social network from its App Store without explanation and had largely stopped advertising on Twitter.
Apple has also threatened to withhold Twitter from its App Store, but won’t tell us why

The rant highlighted Apple’s enormous influence over Twitter’s success, as well as the role it could play in acting as a check on Musk’s chaotic reign over the social network. If Twitter is removed from the App Store, new users will be unable to download the app on their iPhones and iPads, and existing users will be unable to access updates.
Apple is also one of the top advertisers on Twitter, and Musk used a series of tweets to put pressure on the company and CEO Tim Cook to stop spending.

Apple was the seventh largest advertiser on Twitter in the five months before Musk’s acquisition of Twitter, with its ads shown nearly 2 billion times to American users, according to estimates from digital analytics firm Pathmatics.
Apple did not respond immediately to a request for comment.
