“Football is a religion” – Man watches FIFA World Cup match during surgery

A football fan took FIFA fever to new heights by watching a game while being operated on by doctors.

On social media, a photo of a man watching a FIFA World Cup 2022 match on a TV screen while doctors operate on him has gone viral.

The man was under spinal anaesthesia that numbs the body from the waist down while the patient remains awake.

The surgery was conducted at SP ZOZ MSWiA in Kielce, Poland.

“A man in Poland continued watching the World Cup even while having an operation under spinal anaesthesia,” the photo, posted by @notesfrompoland, was captioned.
“The picture was shared by the hospital treating him, SP ZOZ MSWiA in Kielce,” the caption added.
The man reportedly underwent surgery on his “lower regions” on November 25. The unnamed man reportedly asked the doctors if he could watch the match between Wales and Iran. The medics allowed him to watch the match on a TV placed in one corner of the operation theatre.

The picture caught the attention of industrialist Anand Mahindra. “Hey @FIFAcom Don’t you think this gentleman deserves some kind of trophy…???” Mahindra said while retweeting the photo.
One user said, “Football is just not a game it’s a religion.” Another wrote, “Along with the patient, the medical professionals deserve larger trophy for managing him to watch while doing surgery:).”
A third user added, “Goes to show, the craze for football is UNPARALALLED in when it comes to sport! FIFA should identify these FANS or ACs and felicitate them during closing ceremony!” Yet another commented, “Best way to divert your mind.”
