Jemima Osunde (born 30 April 1996) is a Nigerian actress, model, presenter, and physiotherapist. She gained exposure after playing Leila in the television series Shuga. Osunde was nominated for Best Actress in a Leading Role at the 15th Africa Movie Academy Awards for her performance in The Delivery Boy (2018).

Early Life

Jemima Osunde is an Edo State native. She grew up with her mother, father, and older brothers. She is the last child and only daughter of her parents.

Education

She attended Air Force Primary School, went on to Holy Child College for her secondary school education, and had her tertiary education at the College of Medicine, University of Lagos. In 2019, Osunde graduated from the University of Lagos with a degree in physiotherapy.

Osunde joined the mandatory National Youth Service Corps orientation program and uploaded a picture of herself in the program on Instagram on June 7, 2021.

Career

Jemima is a young and trendy actress known for her seemingly flawless talent. Her journey in the entertainment industry started during her first year at the university. She knew there was more she had to offer than studying to become a physiotherapist. She was further encouraged by her uncle, who was a presenter. The ambitious lady started going for auditions, including that of Tinsel, a popular TV series.

She got into Nollywood at 18 and dived right into the business as if she was born for it; apparently, she was born for it. She played her role so well that her first movie got a nomination. At age 19, she became even more popular after being featured in an MTV series titled “Shuga.” She acted as Leila, and that became the name most people knew her by because it was the role that brought her to the limelight.

When the show moved to South Africa for its fifth series, Osunde was written out for a year. She returned for the sixth series when it returned to Nigeria. In 2018, she starred alongside Linda Ejiofor in the second series of NdaniTV’s Rumour Has It.

Jemima eventually got a role in her first movie, Jungle Jewel, produced by Ufuoma McDermott.

Following her outstanding performance in her debut, Jemima started to get more movie roles, and she continued to deliver them as authentic and original as possible. Within a few years, she has stayed in the industry and featured in several movies, including the blockbuster Lion’s Heart. She starred alongside veteran actress Genevieve Nnaji. Also, she extends her talent to TV series and has had a couple of nominations due to her work being well done.

Osunde was back for the seventh series of MTV Shuga “Alone Together,” which went out nightly featuring “lockdown” conversations between the main characters during lockdown from coronavirus. Actors, including Lerato Walaza, Sthandiwe Kgoroge, Uzoamaka Aniunoh, Mamarumo Marokane, and Mohau Cele, did all the filming.

In 2020, she was in the cast of Quam’s Money, a follow-up to the 2018 film in which she starred in New Money. The follow-up story follows what happens when a security guard (Quam) suddenly becomes a multi-millionaire.

Actress Adesua Etomi-Wellington of Nollywood threatened to deal with Jemima Osunde if she continued to ignore her calls.

In a tweet, Banky W’s wife threatened to show Jemima “shege” because she had neglected to respond her calls but still finding time to update her social media accounts.
