Early Life

Sammie Okposo (30 May 1971 – 25 November 2022) was a Nigerian gospel artist. Being a young man growing up, his father had always wanted him to be an accountant cos he felt he could do better in that profession.


On the hand, Sammy showed interest in music at the age of nine. That time he started playing the piano for his local church at age ten and began experiencing the exhilaration that comes with doing what you are supposed to do.

Sammie Okposo is Zamar Entertainment’s CEO and a Gospel singer, music producer, psalmist, and entertainment consultant.

After learning primary music skills, he began his production career in 1992, joining the Nigerian film industry as a soundtrack producer, eventually branching out into music production.

He became a voice in Nigeria’s Gospel music in the year 2000 when he released his debut album, ‘Unconditional Love,’ which included the hit single ‘Welu-Welu,’ propelling him limelight locally and internationally.

Not just that, Sammie Okposo has defied expectations by becoming not only an international, multiple award-winning gospel artist in Nigeria but also performing on stages with international and local Gospel artists such as Kirk Franklin, Donnie Mcclurkin, Fred Hammond, Deitrick Haddon, Jonathan Nelson, Israel Houghton, Micah Stampley, Maxi Priest, Shaggy, Missy Elliot, Benjamin Dube, Judith Sephuma, Sonnie Badu, Uche Double-Double, Lionel Peterson, Angelique Kidjo, Koff.

Also, he has performed at world-class conferences such as the Martin Luther King Day celebration and the Independence Day celebration on July 4.

Personal life and death

Sammie Okposo, a gospel singer, and Welu Welu crooner has reportedly died. According to reports, the music producer collapsed and died on Friday morning. He was 51 years old.

In the apology which was shared on his Instagram page, the singer lamented over the incident which he noted happened in 2021.

The singer further stated that the development has seen him step aside from ministerial work until “full restoration.” The cause of his death is unknown.

Alula Okposo, the daughter of gospel singer Sammie Okposo, has publicly mourned her father’s death, calling it “shocking.”


Alula Okposo said in an Instagram post on Monday in response to her father’s shocking death that the truth still feels like a blank piece of paper, but she knows her father is ‘jamming’ with the angels in heaven.

She wrote: “The real truth is I feel like a blank sheet of paper, just waiting for the different strokes from the paint brushes.

“God knows best because I know you’re definitely jamming with the angels; changing it for them.”

This is a coming days after Sammie Okposo, aged 51, died in his sleep on Friday morning, November 25.
