Atiku Abubakar, the Peoples Democratic Party’s presidential candidate, has labeled those who disrupted the country’s recent elections as enemies of Nigeria.
This, he said in response to the US visa restrictions on election disruptors.
The United States announced on Wednesday that it had imposed visa bans on individuals who had disrupted recent Nigerian elections.
“We are committed to supporting and advancing democracy in Nigeria and around the world. Today, I am announcing visa restrictions on specific individuals in Nigeria for undermining the democratic process in a recent Nigerian election,” the U.S. Secretary of State, Mr Blinken said.
Reacting on Thursday, Atiku appreciated the move by the US saying: “I welcome the United States visa ban on anti-democratic elements whose actions seek to undermine the 2023 elections in Nigeria.
“I encourage other established democracies to follow suit to ensure that there’s no hiding place for the enemies of our democracy.”
