The examining magistrate has ordered that Dani Alves, a Brazilian international player, be remanded in custody without bail after being accused of sexually assaulting a woman in the bathrooms of a nightclub in Barcelona on the night of December 30.
According to judicial sources, the head of Barcelona’s 15th examining court accepted the Public Prosecutor’s Office’s request and the complainant’s private prosecution and sentenced the footballer to prison.
The former Barcelona player was detained by Catalan police on Friday after returning to Spain from Mexico, where he currently resides because he plays for Pumas.
An investigator from the Barcelona police station of Les Corts took his statement.
During the previous Christmas vacations, the victim reported the former footballer for non-consensual touching in the aforementioned local.
The Brazilian signed with Pumas and represented his country in the World Cup.
He came to spend a few days in Barcelona at the end of the World Cup, where the events that have led to his imprisonment occurred.
