On Friday, January 27, 2023, the Osun State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal, sitting in Osogbo, sacked Governor Ademola Adeleke as the state’s duly elected governor.
The tribunal ruled by a vote of two to one that the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, should withdraw Adeleke’s Certificate of Return and reissue it to former Governor Adegboyega Oyetola.
According to the majority judgment read by the Chairman, Justice Tertse Kume, Oyetola received the majority of lawful votes (314,931) to Adeleke’s 219,666.
Recall that the All Progressives Congress and ex-Osun State Governor, Adegboyega Oyetola, were challenging the Peoples Democratic Party candidate for governor on July 16, 2022, Senator Ademola Adeleke, who was returned elected by the Independent National Electoral Commission.
Oyetola was elected governor of the state in 2018 after defeating incumbent governor Ademola Adeleke.
