The Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Chief Timipre Sylva, has resigned.

According to sources, the minister submitted his letter of resignation to President Muhammadu Buhari on Friday, according to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).

This comes after Sylva declared his intention to run in the April All Progressives Congress (APC) primary election in preparation for the Bayelsa governorship election.


Sylva had governed Bayelsa for one term still has constitutional rights to contest for another tenure.





When contacted, Horatius Egua, the minister’s senior adviser for media communications, said he could not deny or confirm the resignation.

According to him, he had not seen the resignation letter or been officially informed of the resignation by the minister.
