Former US President Donald Trump was arrested after surrendering to police upon arrival at the Manhattan district attorney’s office. He is now being held by the police pending his arraignment in court.
According to CNN, Trump is expected to be fingerprinted as part of his arrest, though it is unclear whether his mugshot will be taken.
He will then be taken to a courtroom and arraigned — an appearance that is expected to be brief but represents a surreal historic moment in US history.
Trump will not be handcuffed following his arrest because he will be under constant law enforcement protection.
In New York, Trump was indicted on criminal charges for his role in organizing hush money payments to an adult film star during his 2016 campaign.
The historic indictment handed down by the Manhattan grand jury on Thursday is the first time a president has been charged with a crime.
