Jay Wayne Jenkins aka Young Jeezy was (born September 28, 1977) in Columbia, South Carolina. Soon after his birth, his unmarried parents separated. His mother took him to her home in Georgia, where she raised him with the help of her mother. As a young boy, he was drawn to rap music as hip-hop songs were popular in the area he grew up.

He was raised in poverty, which led him to earn money through unlawful means like selling illegal cell phones and dealing drugs. As a teenager, he moved to Atlanta, where he continued dealing drugs.

Education

In 1994, he was sent to Youth Challenge Academy for nine months for possession of narcotics. During this time, he decided to let go of his dark past and rebuild his life. Nothing more is known about his educational background.

Career

His career started in 2001 when he released his debut album called “Thuggin’ Under the Influence (T. U. I.)” under the nickname Lil J. At that time, the musician was inspired by artists Freddy J., Kinky B, Fidank, and Lil Jon and used their styles in his singles. They helped him produce his songs. 2003 was marked by releasing of Jeezy’s “Come Shop wit Me”, a two-CD set featuring new tracks along with some songs previously released on TUI.

Later the rapper got acquainted with Bad Boy Records, and they signed a deal in 2003. Besides, Jeezy joined the band Boyz n da Hood. Their self-titled album was released in June 2005 and reached No. 5 on the album chart.

Media Controversy

On March 11, 2005, Jay Wayne Jenkins was arrested after an alleged shooting with some of his friends in Miami Beach, Florida. He was charged with two counts of carrying a concealed weapon without a permit; however, prosecutors dropped his charges two months later due to lack of evidence.

In Atlanta on June 18, 2008, Jay Wayne Jenkins was arrested for DUI.

On April 16, 2013, Brian Smith filed a copyright infringement complaint seeking an injunction, damages, and attorney fees against Jay W. Jenkins d/b/a Young Jeezy Music and others in the United States District Court for the Northern District of Georgia concerning the work “Jizzle” which was released in July 2010.

On August 27, 2013, Leroy Hutson, aka Lee Hutson Sr., former lead singer of 1970s R&B group The Impressions, filed a complaint against Jay Wayne Jenkins and others alleging that Young Jeezy’s song “Time” inappropriately incorporated the instrumental portion of “Getting it On, “which was registered with the United States Copyright Office in 1973.

On January 4, 2014, he was arrested for battery, false imprisonment, and terrorist threats after an alleged fight with his son in September 2012.
