PF Accuses Police Command of Exposing Lungu to Attacks

The country’s main opposition party, the Patriotic Front (PF), has accused the police command of removing national security from former president Edgar Lungu’s home, making him vulnerable to attacks.

The party described the development as an attack and systematic harassment of the former president.

PF presidential candidate Emmanuel Mwamba said in a speech yesterday at Mr Lungu’s residence that removing the police from the former president’s home amounted to nothing but outright harassment.

Emmanuel Mwamba, a PF presidential aspirant, said in a speech at Lungu’s residence yesterday that the removal of police officers from the ex-president’s house is nothing short of total harassment.

“Our position as a party is that this is a coordinated harassment and attack of the president. We were alarmed by a statement that all officers have been withdrawn from the former president’s house.

“We have word that the officers that came here during the raid on accusations of the former first lady accused the officers that they found here or siding with Mr Lungu and their were threats against them,” he said.

However, Jack Mwiimbu, the Home Affairs Minister, debunked claims that police have been withdrawn from Lungu’s house.

Mwiimbu said that Lungu was still entitled to security and that speculations of security withdrawal was not authentic.

In the same vein, Danny Mwale, the Deputy Spokesman for the Police has said that Edgar Lungu’s security was still intact.

“The officers appearing on the message circulating on social media platforms have been withdrawn and deployed to perform other duties elsewhere,” he said.
