After simultaneously giving birth to nine healthy infants, a young mother broke the Guinness World Record.
The nonuplets were born on May 4, 2021 to a Malian mother named Halima Cissé and her husband, Abdelkader Arby.
According to the Guinness Book of World Records, doctors had anticipated Halima would give birth to seven children, but when she was taken to the Ain Borja Clinic in Morocco for specialized care, two additional infants were found.
In Halima’s 30th week of pregnancy, the nonuplets were delivered through a caesarean section prematurely. The names of the newborns—five girls and four boys—are Adama, Oumou, Hawa, Kadidia, Fatouma, Oumar, Elhadji, Bah, and Mohammed VI.
After spending time in Morocco, the children and their mother, according to the BBC, have returned to Mali.
Their father said:
“They all have different characters. Some are quiet, while others make more noise and cry a lot. Some want to be picked up all the time. They are all very different, which is entirely normal.”
“It’s a lot of work but Allah, who gave us this blessing, will help us in their upbringing and taking care of them,” he said.
Before the nonuplets arrived, the parents already had a girl who was 3 years old.
People from all over the world have been interested in the delivery of the nonuplets, and many have expressed their wonder at the mother’s capacity to carry and deliver nine infants at once.
According to the Guinness World Records, Halima Cissé’s nonuplets are the first known occurrence of a woman giving birth to nine children simultaneously.
