Burna Boy, Tems bag multiple nominations at 2023 BET Awards

The Grammy Award-winning Nigerian singer Burna Boy has received nominations for the 2023 Black Entertainment Television Awards in four different categories.

According to a list that BET published on its social media channels, the multi-award-winning singer will compete against other international artists in the Best Male R&B/Pop Artist category, including Drake, Chris Brown, The Weekend, and Usher.

For his work on the visual interpretation of the hugely successful single “last last,” Burna Boy will participate in the Video Director of the Year category alongside Asap Rocky, Dave Free & Kendrick Lamar, Director X, and others.

The self-described African behemoth received two more nominations, this time for Best International Act and Viewers’ Choice for the song Last Last.


Another Grammy-winning Nigerian musician, Tems, has furthermore gotten three nominations, one of which is for Best Female R&B/Pop performer.


Future, Drake, and Tems have also each got two nominations for their collaborative work on the song “Wait for You,” which is up for Best Collaboration and Viewer’s Choice awards.

In addition, she was nominated twice for the song “Wait for You,” which is up for Best Collaboration and Viewers’ Choice Awards and features Future and Drake.

One nomination each was received by Asake and Ayra Starr.


Asake will compete in the Best New International Act, Viewers’ Choice category, while Ayra Starr will compete in the Best International Act category against Burna Boy.

Black performers in music, cinema, sports, and philanthropy are honored each year at the BET Awards, an American award event put on by the Black Entertainment Television network.
