According to well-known Afrobeats artist David Adeleke, nicknamed Davido, he and Wizkid were the first young Nigerian musicians to achieve fame.
He expressed his delight at “new cats” (stars) like Burna Boy, Rema, Fireboy, Mayorkun, and Asake currently ruling the music business.
In an interview that went viral on social media on Thursday, the 30 Billion Gang singer made this claim.
He said;
Wizkid and I were the first young artists to blow up and it feels good seeing new cats like Burna Boy, Rema, Fireboy, Mayorkun, you know a lot of new cats coming, killing it…Asake who was on my album.
“So, yes, I think the future of Afrobeat is in good hands.”
Meanwhile, his statement has sparked controversy on social media with many Burna Boy’s fans berating him for putting the Grammy award-winning singer in the same group with newbies.
