The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) set a score requirement of 140 in order to guarantee admission to Nigerian universities.
The minimal cutoff score for polytechnics was set by the Board at 100, and the same was true for colleges of education.
At the 2023 Policy Meeting on Admissions to Tertiary Institutions in Nigeria, which was held at the National Judicial Institute in Abuja, a decision was made.
The board observed that the connotation was that each institution had the freedom to set its own cut-off mark, but that no one would be permitted to receive less than the minimum agreed-upon marks of 100 for colleges of education, 100 for polytechnics, and 140 for universities.
