Manchester United 'Approach' Adrien Rabiot after third Mason Mount bid rejected

Manchester United’s wait for their first signing of the summer continues on Monday as the Mason Mount saga rumbles on.

United have now seen three bids for their top midfield target turned down by Chelsea of upfront fees with add-ons worth in the region of £40million, £50m and £55m. Chelsea are holding out for an overall fee of £65m.

The United football director John Murtough is understood to have taken a dim view of Chelsea’s strategy of communicating United’s bids through the club’s dedicated correspondents in London.

Sources say Murtough’s “hands are tied” due to United’s finances and there is a precise bidding structure to progress with potential deals.

United have been linked with plenty of alternatives including Declan Rice and Moises Caceido.

Adrien Rabiot has agreed a new deal with Juventus and will commit his future to the Italian side on Wednesday, according to the Corriere dello Sport.

United have approached Rabiot’s representatives in recent days as they continue searching for midfield reinforcements.

The 28-year-old’s current deal is set to expire this week, which would have allowed him to leave on a free.

However reports in Italy suggest he will instead decide to stay in Turin after reaching an agreement with Juve.
