Lionel Messi, the captain of Argentina, has ruled out taking part in the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Messi stated that while he would not be participating as a football player, he would still like to be present at the 2026 World Cup venue to watch matches.
The 35-year-old, who helped Argentina win the 2022 World Cup in Qatar last December, was asked if he would play in the 2026 World Cup.
The former Barcelona captain responded, “I don’t think I will play in the next edition of the World Cup.” He was speaking to the Chinese media on a Chinese stream platform.
“I have not changed my mind about that. I’d like to be there to watch it, but I’m not going to participate,” he said.
The 2026 World Cup will take place in the United States, Mexico and Canada.
