Freeborn Opuofoni Ebimotimi, a University of Ibadan first-class graduate, was killed by an enraged crowd after being accused with stealing bread.
Ebimotimi, a native of the Southern Ijaw Local Government area’s Korokorosei community, is accused of robbing a local citizen who owns a small company.
Idisemi Opuofoni Freeborn, his younger sister, claimed that after neighbours and friends heard about the incident, they hurried to the scene and begged the angry teenagers to spare him life, offering to pay for the bread in doubles, but the irate youths rejected the appeal and killed him.
Idisemi claims that after their father’s passing, life has been unfair for them and that his hunger drove him to steal bread.
She said:
“We are seven in our family and life has been hard after our father died. I wrote WAEC since 2019 and has not been able to proceed to the University because of funds.”
She however pointed out that despite having uncles who are doing well in government and other places but could not help them.
