Why I won’t celebrate my birthday due to the current state of Nigeria – Peter Obi

Peter Obi campaign releases manifesto with 7 priorities

Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Labour Party, has stated that he will not be celebrating his birthday due to the current status of Nigeria.

Obi made the announcement on Monday through his verified Twitter feed.

The LP flagbearer declared that he will not accept birthday invites from his friends, party members, and supporters.

Obi, on the other hand, asked anyone considering giving him presents to instead analyze their surroundings and show generosity to those who are less fortunate.

The former governor of Anambra state claimed that he has consistently insisted that everyone, including the powerful and influential, must now begin making sacrifices for a better Nigeria. He insisted that the status of the country is cause for reflection.

Obi said he would like to rejoice in a Nigeria that works for everyone and that Nigerians can be proud of, stating it is the true celebration that will benefit all Nigerians. Obi said that there is simply too much insecurity, violence, and killing in the country.

“I turn 62 on Wednesday, July 19, 2023,” declared Obi. While I am still incredibly grateful to God for His unending mercies, I have decided for more than 20 years that I will not celebrate my birthdays in today’s Nigeria because of the country’s terrible condition.

“However, a few close friends, Labour Party members, and OBIdient Family and supporters have inquired as to how they may join me in celebrating that day and perhaps even give me some gifts.

“Let me politely and humbly appeal to everyone who wishes to honour me with any kind of gift to look around them and give such presents to the less fortunate, especially now.

“I advise them to make significant donations when they visit hospitals, orphanages, and homes for the elderly and persons with disabilities. Additionally, they can help remote basic education institutions with the essential amenities they require by visiting and visiting them.

“Those who want to take action further might visit various IDP camps across the nation. I’m going to follow suit. In addition to helping those who are less fortunate near me with my time and resources, I want to generate money for institutions like hospitals and schools.
