Early Life
Leland Osifeso (born April 28, 1996), Lojay was born to the Yoruba family of Mr. and Mrs. Lekan Osifeso. Lekan Osifeso Jr. was named after his father. He is the first kid of the family and is from one of the states in southwest Nigeria.
His parents were devoted Christians. Thus, he was raised in a religious environment. This indicated that he routinely attended church and infrequently missed services.
His religious upbringing aided him in discovering his passion for music. He developed an interest in music from listening to the various gospel songs that his parents enjoyed playing.
Education
2018 saw his graduation from the University of Portsmouth in the UK. His family first resided in Victoria Island before moving to Ikorodu. Lekan has exhibited exceptional potential and a propensity for music ever since he was a little child.
He was a Dkoy local rap group member while attending Nigerian Turkish Secondary School during his secondary education. He produced singles like Kilode while he was in Dkoy. Osifeso routinely attended church with his family as a family tradition during childhood because his mother was a preacher. Chris Brown was one of his favorite singers when he was younger.
Career
The first letters of Lojay’s entire name, “Lekan Osifeso Junior” (LO-J), are used as the stage name. As a teenager, he developed a passion for singing and music. Throughout his adolescent years, he followed his interest. He seamlessly transitions between different musical genres and does so. He stated this in an interview with Nataal.
“I don’t have a genre, and I’m not going to put myself in a box just because people expect it….anyone that wants to put me in a box is free to do so. You can call it anything you want if you are jamming and connecting to the gbedu(song). If I do rock tomorrow, nobody should fight me.”
While still a student, he began playing music professionally in 2016 on a part-time basis. After earning his degree, he turned his attention entirely to music. Five tracks made up Lojay’s debut EP, Midnight Vibes, released in December 2017. The EP’s songs are Atarodo, Alomo, Kele, 10K Splaw, and Whine & Bubble.
He released “Ariel” as a single in 2019 and “Ogogoro” as a second single in 2020. Between his first foray into the music business in 2016 and the arrival of his breakthrough songs in 2021, Lojay released several tracks, including Along, Kuli Kuli, and Over the Bar, among others.
His second EP, LV N ATTN (stylized from Love and Attention), which he co-produced with producer Sarz, was released in May 2021. The five-track EP included his breakthrough songs, “Tonongo” and “Monalisa,” released earlier that year.
He later remixed “Monalisa” with Chris Brown. Additionally, he included Wizkid in the song LV N ATTN, which shares the same name as the EP. Panty! and Park O X3 are the names of the remaining two songs. The body of work led to a nomination for the 2021–2022 Next Rated Artist category of The Headies award. DJ Neptune and Zlatan Ibile featured him in the song “Only Fan” in November 2021.
He participated in the tour of the Heineken UEFA Champions League trophy in Nigeria in 2022.
Gangster Romantic is the name of Lojay’s second solo EP, which was released in March 2023. Later that month, the British Phonographic Industry (BPI) awarded “Monalisa” its Silver certification.
