Former Manchester City defender, Benjamin Mendy, has released a statement through his lawyer after he was found not guilty of rape and attempted rape at Chester Crown Court on Friday.
A statement by the footballer’s lawyer said, “Benjamin Mendy would like to thank the members of the jury for focusing on the evidence in this trial rather than on the rumour and innuendo that have followed this case since the outset.
“He thanks everyone who has supported him throughout this ordeal and now asks for privacy, so he can begin to rebuild his life,” the 28-year-old’s attorney, Jenny Wiltshire, said.
Mendy was accused of carrying out sex acts on two ladies at his £4m mansion.
But the former Monaco man was cleared after three hours of deliberation by a jury.
