Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen, who led Napoli in scoring last season, is the team’s main target, and the Serie A champions would stop at nothing to keep him.
Top European clubs have been keeping an eye on Osimhen as a result of his excellent performance, which was essential to Napoli’s first title-winning season in 33 years. According to rumours, the team has now extended Osimhen’s contract for another two years with a salary of N6.5 billion ($6.5 million plus €1 million in bonuses).
On Monday, Skysports claimed that Napoli was in advanced negotiations to extend Osimhen’s contract through 2027 with an increase in pay.
Osimhen, whose contract has two years remaining, had earlier asked for a better deal with €7 million.
Napoli’s new manager, Rudi Garcia had confirmed that Osimhen would remain at the club ahead of the new season, saying “Of course, I have spoken to Osimhen who wants to stay here to make another great season with Napoli.”
“I can assure you that he (OsImhen) wants to stay, he is happy to be with us and still wants to do great things.”
Osimhen scored 26 goals plus five assists in 32 league appearances for Napoli last season.
Meanwhile, Roberto Calenda, the agent of Napoli star forward, Victor Osimhen has debunked reports that claimed the striker has refused a new contract offer at Naples.
The 24-year old has two years remaining on his contract at Napoli.
The Italian side are keen to convince him to extend his stay admist interest of a few European top clubs.
