“When I Visited Nnamdi Kanu In DSS Custody, He Said Simon Ekpa Is Not Representing Him” – Senator Abaribe

Senate may not reconsider gender bills - Senator Abaribe

Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe, representing Abia South, endorsed a motion in the National Assembly requesting the federal government to resolve the continuing sit-in in the Southeast region.

Senator Abaribe described his visit to Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, who was detained by the Department of State Services (DSS), along with other leaders such as Ike Ekweremadu, two bishops, and an Ohanaeze Ndi’igbo leader.

During the visit, Nnamdi Kanu informed them that Simon Ekpa is not his representative and that he has withdrawn from the sit-at-home order. Following the visit, the leaders transmitted this message to other Southeast leaders.

Despite Nnamdi Kanu’s statement, a few miscreants continue to enforce the sit-at-home order on Mondays, causing fear and violence in the region. Senator Abaribe even interacted with market leaders in Abia State, who mentioned that they were forced to comply with the order out of fear for their safety.

Senator Abaribe emphasized that no one in the Southeast is supporting the actions of these criminals except those who endorse them. He also revealed his discussions with the Finnish embassy and the head of the United Nations in Nigeria, who informed him that the resolution of the sit-at-home issue requires government-to-government interaction.

Senator Abaribe’s account highlights the complexities and challenges surrounding the enforcement of the sit-at-home order in the Southeast and the need for government intervention to address the situation.
