In a recent statement, Acting Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kayode Egbetokun denied allegations that his appointment to the position was motivated by his friendship with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu during the latter’s tenure as Governor of Lagos State.
In a statement, the acting IGP stated that President Tinubu was known for appointing appointments based on merit and fitness rather than personal relationships.
Egbetokun expressed his thankfulness for the appointment, viewing it as proof of divine providence rather than being influenced by social media rumors.
“For those of us familiar with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and his approach to governance, we are aware that he prioritizes competence and qualifications in appointing individuals to sensitive positions.
So, any insinuation that my appointment was solely due to past work associations with him is unfounded,” said Egbetokun.
Sharing his reaction to the moment he learned of his appointment, Egbetokun revealed that he was at a friend’s house watching television when the breaking news flashed across the screen.
He attributed the unexpected honor to the grace of God and acknowledged that the appointment was not solely based on personal connections or qualifications.
The acting IGP further praised President Tinubu’s commitment to selecting the most suitable candidates for critical roles within the government, asserting that such practices were necessary for effective governance.
