Mavin artist Charles Chibuezechukwu, also known as Crayon, recently said that he previously aspired to be a professional footballer; unfortunately, his hopes of accomplishing this objective never came true.
Crayon opened up about his earlier dreams and how he aggressively pursued a career in football in an interview with Cool FM on Thursday.
He mentioned that he had attended a football screening event at the National Stadium, which he saw as a possible road to his preferred job.
Regrettably, his hopes were dashed as he was not selected to move forward in this pursuit. The singer went on to explain that his absence from the final selection was attributed to a rather disheartening reason. According to Crayon, another individual was chosen in his place, and he linked this decision to the wealth and social connections of the selected person.
Sharing his insights on the complexities of football in Nigeria, Crayon alluded to the inherent challenges within the system. He expressed that the football landscape in the country is marred by corruption, without delving into specific details or naming individuals responsible.
The artist chose to withhold names in order to avoid any potential negative consequences that could arise from such revelations. Crayon recounted a personal experience from his pursuit of a football career, sharing a story from a screening event he attended in Surulere.
At this event, he was initially selected but ultimately replaced by another participant with apparent financial resources and influential connections.
This revelation highlights the frustrations and obstacles many aspiring footballers in Nigeria face as they navigate a system riddled with challenges, including issues of corruption and favoritism. Crayon’s journey from aspiring footballer to successful musician sheds light on the diverse paths individuals navigate in the pursuit of their dreams and goals.
