NLC Begins Petrol Subsidy Removal Protest In Lagos Amid Heavy Security (PHOTOS)

Protests have begun by members of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) against the withdrawal of the petrol subsidy.

Protesters have gathered at Lagos’s Ikeja under-bridge.

Last Wednesday, the NLC gave the federal government a seven-day deadline to remove all “anti-poor” and “insensitive” measures.

The union also urged civil society organizations (CSOs) and its state councils to join the August 2 nationwide strike to protest the country’s rising cost of living.

The federal government’s efforts to halt the planned strike and demonstration were futile.
