During an interview with Channels Television, PDP spokesperson Daniel Bwala remarked that President Bola Ahmed’s broadcast speech on Monday is at odds with reality on the ground. He went on to say that it was unfortunate that the president had to announce the end of fuel subsidies before dealing with the many challenges on the ground.
He went on to say that the common citizen may appreciate the president’s address, especially when seen from a scholarly standpoint. However, he emphasized that the country is currently facing an emergency situation and that the president should handle it before it worsens.
According to him, “Well, from the scholastic point of view, I think the president speech can be lauded by an average person when you look at how you itemise issues one after the other and then talk about the plans from the scholastic point of view, and the economies and people who value intellectualism will quite appreciate that, but the speech of the president is in contradistinction with the realities on the ground, and it bills repeating that there was a flip-flop policy right from the beginning when the president announced the removal of subsidies before the very issues he discussed yesterday were to be implemented.
I read the speech; 70% of what you find in the speech is already contained in the manifesto, but this is not the period to talk about the manifesto; this is the period for deliverables.”
