Early Life
Veronica Shaw was (born on February 7, 1993), in Miami, Florida,. She was just one month old when Shaw’s mother passed away. Since then, she was raised by her grandmother and great-grandmother. Shaw began her journey with cooking at just eight years old.
Growing up, she spent much time with her friends in their Latin, Caribbean, and European kitchens. As she grew older, she considered entering the medical profession. Upon graduating high school, Shaw began pursuing her career in nursing school.
Career
Veronica’s career as a chef began in 2018 when her closest friends sat her down and asked her why she wasn’t seriously considering becoming a chef. In 2018, Veronica eventually decided to give her side passion a try.
She has already learned the fundamentals of cooking from her grandmother from age 8. Later, she experimented with combining multiple tastes to create new dishes. All thanks to her dedication and hard work, which helped her to become a renowned celebrity on the internet.
Veronica came to the spotlight when she began experimenting with baking a pink condiment in June 2021. In the fall of that year, she opened her restaurant, “Flavor Cra#y.” However, her restaurant is no longer operating for some reason.
Around that time, she began attending various events. When her video clips of Pink Sauce were constantly trending on social media, Shaw started selling her condiment online. In the middle of 2022, she created her new product, “The Pink Sauce.”
People from the United States began ordering “The Pink Sauce,” but things suddenly turned. Most of her clients began analyzing it and questioning its safety and the sauce’s ingredient list. For instance, several users online began pointing out the coloring of the sauce.
By the end of summer 2022, all of this publicity caught the attention of the FDA, which placed Veronica’s operation under investigation. Shaw teamed up with Dave’s Gourmet, a long-running hot sauce boutique best known for Dave’s Insanity Sauce.
Sahw’s partnership with this company ensured that Dave’s gourmet infrastructure would produce the sauce commercially with all the manufacturing guidelines. The product now includes the same dragon fruit with coconut cream, canola oil, onion powder, ranch flavoring, and additional ingredients.
Personal Issues
She eventually revealed that she made a sauce out of red dragon fruit, which can be eaten with burgers, salads, and chicken tenders. Later, the consumers learned that the product contains milk and relies primarily on natural preservatives.
They began to worry about the sauce not being shipped in a refrigerated. Shaw then clarified that keeping the sauce at room temperature is safe. She had another problem when customers began receiving their products: exploded bottles. She quickly learned and switched from shipping her products in bags and boxes.
Chef Pii also appeared on the YouTube talk show “Karamo Show.” Here, she confronted criticism aimed at her sauce. During that interview, her behavior was troubling enough to get the internet shaming her yet again.
Chef Pii Launches GoFundMe
Chef Pii – Veronica Shaw — is looking for help after going from social virality to having her product on store shelves.
On August 16, The Pink Sauce’s founder launched a GoFundMe campaign to “help get justice” for her firm. She alleges that a previous agreement with a corporation has soured, and she is looking for cash that was allegedly stolen from her company.
“They lied to me,” Chef Pii wrote in the fundraiser’s description. “They are not paying me and are not being transparent about records. I have tried on multiple occasions to try and come to one accord with them but they refuse to reimburse me for marketing expenses that I spent my own funds towards. I have been silenced and financially sabotaged.”
She added, “They are refusing to pay me the royalty that is owed to me. I don’t know what else to do. I can’t give up. I need help.”
Chef Pii claims that the lack of cash from The Pink Sauce is preventing her from providing for her children. As a result, she is seeking legal counsel.
The situation is critical. GoFundMe followed The Pink Sauce becoming a viral sensation in 2022, which sparked some customer backlash. Chef Pii, on the other hand, as previously reported by AFROTECH, stated that she learned from her mistakes.
“The next time I think of an amazing product, I will have a structured backing before I go live with it,” Chef Pii told AFROTECH in January 2023. “I expressed this to the youth and then also other entrepreneurs and the mistakes that I’ve made. Just taking that time to look at steps one, two, and three because you may not know what the future is gonna be like. Like, I posted in the video, The Pink Sauce was my product. I created The Pink Sauce in 2021.”
The online attention led The Pink Sauce to team up with Dave’s Gourmet, landing on the shelves of Walmart in over 4,300 store locations and online. According to our previous report, the product was available exclusively at Walmart until July 2023.
However, whether or not that’s still the case is unclear. To be clear, during an Instagram Live, Chef Pii stated that the retail giant isn’t the company she’s seeking her royalty from.
AFROTECH has reached out to Dave’s Gourmet for comment but has not yet received a response.
