JUST IN: Nigeria Loses Joint Bid To Host AFCON 2027

Ghana’s four AFCON trophies reportedly missing

According to AFP, Nigeria and the Benin Republic have lost the joint bid to host the African Cup of Nations (AFCON) in 2027.

Instead, Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania have been named as the joint hosts for the tournament.

The Minister of Sports Development, Senator John Owan Enoh, along with representatives from the Nigeria Football Federation, traveled to Egypt on Tuesday to bid for the hosting rights.

Nigeria previously only hosted the AFCON in 1980, when they emerged victorious under the leadership of Christian Chukwu and in the presence of enthusiastic home fans, including former President Shehu Shagari.

The joint hosting of the tournament with Ghana ended in disappointment, as Cameroon’s Indomitable Lions claimed the trophy at the National Stadium in Lagos.
