Lionel Messi, the superstar of Inter Miami, has officially announced his decision to return to Barcelona. The 36-year-old expressed regret over his departure from the Nou Camp in 2021, stating that it left him with a sour feeling.
Messi had to bid farewell to Barca due to their financial difficulties, which made it impossible for the club to offer him a contract extension.
After leaving Barcelona, Messi joined Paris Saint-Germain as a free agent.
Despite being given the opportunity to reunite with the Catalans this summer, he chose to sign with Inter Miami instead.
However, Messi has not had the opportunity to give a proper goodbye to the Barcelona fans.
He has now confirmed his intention to rectify that situation after winning his record-breaking eighth Ballon d’Or in Paris on Monday evening.
“There was a bitter taste when I left and I don’t like that. I’d like to change the way the story ended.
“I deserve to say goodbye to the people that gave me so much joy. If it happens I’ll be very happy to be there of course,” he told reporters.
