According to the Daily Mail, Sandro Tonali, the midfielder for Newcastle, is on the verge of being handed a 10-month football ban by Italian authorities due to his involvement in illegal betting.
Negotiations between Tonali’s lawyers and prosecutors, as well as the Italian Football Federation, are nearing an agreement following allegations that he placed illicit bets during his time at AC Milan.
Despite the impending ban, Tonali will still be able to participate in Newcastle’s Champions League match against Borussia Dortmund on Wednesday evening.
However, it is anticipated that the suspension will take effect on Thursday.
If the 10-month ban commences on Thursday, Tonali will likely be absent for the remainder of the current 2023/24 season for Newcastle.
Additionally, he would miss the early weeks of the 2024-2025 campaign and be ineligible to participate in the Euro 2024 tournament representing Italy.
Although Tonali will be unable to play until late August 2024, it is believed that he will be allowed to train with the team during his ban.
