JUST IN: Senate confirms Zacch Adedeji as substantive FIRS Chairman

The Senate confirmed Mr Zacch Adedeji’s nomination as Chairman of the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) on Tuesday.

Adedeji, who appeared in the upper house on Tuesday for his screening, outlined his ideas to increase the nation’s revenue, citing a lack of information in the oil and gas sector.

The FIRS chief assured that most leaks would be stopped. According to him, the country’s main challenge is a lack of accurate data, and collecting data on which judgments will be made is critical.

According to him, it will provide sufficient information on the actual number of crude boats carried into the country and the associated tax. According to the FIRS chairman, the data will be utilized to identify persons in wealth who pay insufficient tax.

Adedeji also promised to centralize Nigeria’s identity system and develop the country’s data mining capabilities.
