Pep Guardiola, the manager of Manchester City, has expressed his belief that Erling Haaland will only secure the Ballon d’Or if he continues to score goals and achieve success in winning trophies.
Guardiola shared his thoughts following Haaland’s impressive performance, where he scored twice in their triumph against Young Boys in the Champions League on Tuesday.
With this recent achievement, Haaland has now accumulated 15 goals in just as many matches during the current season.
Although Haaland finished as the runner-up to Lionel Messi for the award this year, Guardiola was asked whether the 23-year-old star could emerge as the winner in the coming year.
“If he and his mates can win more trophies, then he will have a chance to win it.
“If he doesn’t, then he won’t win it,” Guardiola said.
Haaland now has 39 goals in just 34 Champions League matches and has now scored 67 in 70 games for City.
