The Supreme Court’s ruling declared that both the old and new naira notes will retain their status as legal tenders.
In addition, the court directed that the old N200, N500, and N1000 notes should continue to be accepted as valid currency until further instructions are given.
The apex court further stated that both the old and new notes will remain in circulation until the Federal Government develops a plan for their replacement or redesign, following appropriate consultations with relevant parties.
