According to The Mirror, Simon Vukcevic, a former Premier League (PL) player, has reportedly been arrested for allegedly possessing a gun and 126 bullets.
The 37-year-old ex-Blackburn Rovers midfielder was apprehended at an international border while attempting to leave his country.
Vukcevic, who represented Serbia and Montenegro internationally and played against England numerous times, may face up to 56 days in jail, as reported by Serbian press.
Prosecutors in Uzice, Serbia, have taken on the case, as per Portuguese newspaper Record, which claims that the one-time Sporting playmaker has been charged with “unlawful possession of a weapon and ammunition.”
Vukcevic began his professional career at the age of 17 with Partizan Belgrade. He went on to spend time in Russia and Portugal, before joining Blackburn from Sporting in 2011.
He played 21 games for Rovers, scoring his first goal in a League Cup tie with Leyton Orient, but suffered relegation from the Premier League in his debut campaign.
